Public Relations

cooperation with the ČEZ Foundation in co-financing the Dean’s Award Competition, where students of bachelor, master and doctoral studies present the results of their research and are financially supported for further research

Teaching

September 2012: our faculty was the first to accredit an English programme for undergraduate students at VŠE called “Economics”
2018 – 2020: successful re-accreditation of all bachelor, master and doctoral programmes, taking into account the standards of foreign schools, restructuring of minor specialisations
September 2019: Economics and Public Policy – English programme for Master’s students introduced
November 2022: new networking programme “NF Alumni Mentoring” launched, connecting current students of the Faculty (from 2nd year of Bachelor’s degree onwards) with its alumni (with more than five years of experience). The programme aims to deepen the practical dimension of studies.
January 2023: updating of the offer of field electives across all degree programmes, with the addition of language skills-enhancing courses (5EN382 Chapters in Economics II, 55F350 Short-term foreign internship).
May/June 2023: all curricula have been updated, with an increase in the credit assessment of bachelor and master theses in order to improve the quality of final qualifying theses
September 2023: the VŠE NF traditionally organises a familiarisation course for first year Bachelor students once a year in September. This is a very enjoyable event where new students have the opportunity to gain valuable information and advice about their studies, make friends in a new environment and gather a lot of unforgettable experiences.

As part of the first Innovation Week at the NF VŠE (held at the turn of October and November 2022), the Faculty organized a number of events, including lectures by Prof. Jean-Robert Tyran (University of Vienna), an external lecture by experts from EY, a lecture on the budget process of the capital city of Prague with lecturers Ing. Patrik Paneš, Ph.D. and Pavel Vyhnánek, M.A., a workshop on coal mining and trade in the Czechoslovak Republic, a visit to Deloitte, the Social Policy 2022 conference, an excursion to the CNB “Behind the Currency”, an excursion to the Mayrau mining museum, an excursion to places in Prague connected with the economic history of the Czech lands, and more.
The second Innovation Week at the NF VŠE took place in March 2023. During the second Innovation Week, a delegation from the University of Glasgow visited the NF VŠE and an off-semester course on Psychology, Economics and Experiments by guest lecturer T. Koutmeridis from the University of Glasgow took place. The students also took part in a number of excursions around Prague, including a visit to the Supreme Audit Office, the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, a historical tour of the Lesser Town, an excursion to the Czech National Bank and a visit to a social residential facility for people with disabilities. The VŠE also hosted a number of external lectures by experts from practice such as EY, ČEZ and experts from the Prague City Hall and the Prague City Development Institute, among others.

The third Innovation Week took place in November 2023, when the VŠE NF was again actively involved and organised a large number of interesting events for students. For example, Professor Marco Avarucci (University of Glasgow) visited the faculty during this week and led an off-semester course Introduction to Time Series Analysis. The Faculty also welcomed Dr. Kolm, Vice President of the Austrian Central Bank, who gave two lectures, Scientific foundations for successful Innovative design and Markets vs. State Interventions. The students also had the opportunity to attend interesting lectures by, for example, experts from ČEZ Ing. Aleš Zatloukal and Ing. Dalibor Dymák, researcher of the Institute of International Relations prof. Ing. Petr Drulák, Ph.D., or a lecture by Chief State Prosecutor JUDr. Lenka Bradáčová, Ph.D. Students could also take part in an excursion to the Czech National Bank or an exclusive visit to the National Memorial at Vítkov.
The popular course “Organization of markets, industries and public sector through the eyes of managers” is regularly opened, with lectures by top managers from the financial, health, sports, energy and public administration sectors (CEO of ČEZ, Chief State Prosecutor in Prague, Director of the Czech Television Programme, Director of the Prague International Marathon, Head of the Maternity Department of the U Apolinář Hospital and others)

November 2023: launch of the second year of Alumni Mentoring for students of Bachelor’s and Master’s studies at the NF VŠE. It is a form of cooperation that enables the transfer of experience and the establishment of a professional relationship between a graduate of the NF VŠE (mentor) and a student of the NF VŠE (mentee).
November 2023: Professor Pělucha presented the experience of the NF with the preparation of the international project Horizont Twining. The presentation took place in the framework of a seminar organized by the Rector’s Office of the University of Economics in Prague on the topic “HORIZON EUROPE & THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORT OF INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS”.
November 2023: The Department of Economic and Social Policy organized a scientific conference Social Policy 2023 with the subtitle Space for austerity measures. The conference featured speakers such as Assoc. MUDr. Iva Holmerová, Ph.D., one of the most prominent gerontologists and also a manager in the health care sector in the Czech Republic or Ing. Miroslav Zámečník, Chief Economist of the Czech Banking Association.
70 years of VŠE : On the occasion of the birthday of VŠE, a series of lectures took place on the school premises. For example, Professor Václav Klaus, Associate Professor Eva Zamrazilová, and Dr. Karina Kubelková gave lectures on behalf of our faculty.

 

Internationalization

Starting in the winter semester 2022/2023, students have the opportunity to attend off-semester courses taught by foreign professors (5EN381Chapters in Economics I. and 5EN382 Chapters in Economics II. ), which aim to broaden the students’ horizons by successful academic experts from prestigious foreign universities, to introduce them to new modern courses that are trendy at foreign universities, to possible alternative approaches in teaching, and above all to motivate them to go on a study abroad. As part of these courses, Professor Jean-Robert Tyran from the University of Vienna with his course Experimental and Behavioral Economics and Professor Theodore Koutmeridis from the University of Glasgow with his course Economics and Psychology will visit the VŠE NF in the winter semester 2022/2023. In the winter semester 2023/2024, we will again have an off-semester course on Behavioral and Experimental Economics by Professor Jean-Robert Tyran, Dr. Marco Avarucci from the University of Glasgow with an off-semester course on Introduction to Time Series Analysis, and at the end of November Professor Michele Battisti with his course on Labour market: Little Theory, More Applications, also at the University of Glasgow. Further off-semester courses by foreign professors are planned for the summer semester, such as a return visit by Dr. Koutmeridis and visits by Dr. Petri Kuosmanen from the University of Vaasa and Dr. Sebastian Lutz from the University of Vienna.

As part of the development of internationalisation in doctoral studies, an interactive course on Scientific Publishing in Economics was taught at the Faculty by Professor Jean-Robert Tyran in May 2023. The aim of the course was to engage PhD students enough to make them aware of the importance of scientific publishing in economics and to give them an insight into how to successfully publish in prestigious scientific journals in order to establish themselves in the contemporary scientific world.
As part of internationalisation, collaboration with a number of universities is being developed, such as:
– KDI School of Public Policy and Management and the launch of an incoming double degree.

-with the University of Glasgow the faculty cooperates in the implementation of teaching visits for academics and in cooperation with the OZS of the University of Glasgow in the preparation of mutual mobility of students and PhD students. At the same time, other modes of cooperation are planned in the future, such as research fellowships, scientific cooperation or a “Summer School of Economics” to be held reciprocally at both universities. In March 2023, a delegation from the University of Glasgow visited and prepared a workshop for Czech students and academics to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Adam Smith’s birth. At the same time, an online scientific workshop is planned in cooperation with the University of Glasgow.

Between 2010 and 2023, 19 associate professors and 5 professors were successfully habilitated.
In the period from 2010 to 2023, our faculty has received and solved 25 grants from GAČR.
Newly accredited doctoral courses in cooperation with prestigious foreign universities – e.g. course 55F960 Scientific Publishing in Economics. The Department of Economics of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Economics in Prague will offer from 2023 an off-semester course for PhD students or academic staff, which will be taught by an expert in behavioural and experimental economics and a successful scientist publishing in prestigious foreign journals, Professor Jean-Robert Tyran from the University of Vienna.

Long-term strengthening of the cooperation of the Faculty of Economics with practice – e.g. with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (HERE), CEZ (HERE), and other organizations (HERE).
Applied economic research in cooperation with international universities – an example is the new contract research project funded by the European Commission on empirical, analytical and educational activities supporting the process of transformation of coal regions in the Czech Republic (12/2022 – 06/2024).

The Faculty of National Economy is now represented in two evaluation panels of the GAČR – from April 2023, the Faculty of National Economy is represented by two prominent experts in two key evaluation panels focused on economic and business/management sciences. This is a prestigious representation in the most important institution of the state, which is the only one in our country that provides earmarked support from public funds for basic research projects.
Cooperation with practice

Establishment of close cooperation between top representatives of the decision-making sphere and also with the most successful managers in the Czech Republic, at our faculty students can attend lectures of the most important current economic policy makers, experts from practice are invited to individual courses, (Daniel Beneš- DG CEZ, prof. Antonín Pařízek – obstetrician, Marian Jelínek – hockey trainer, personal coach, Milan Fridrich – program director of CT, Lenka Bradáčová – chief prosecutor and others)
Cooperation with the Karlovy Vary Region – “The programme of professional and empirical support of the NF VŠE graduates by the Karlovy Vary Region,” the award of the diploma thesis of the now graduate Nikola Koukalová by the Governor of the Karlovy Vary Region Ing. Petr Kulhánek (HERE)
Autumn 2017 – establishment of the Alumni Club of the Faculty of Economics, which since the beginning of its activities has been regularly organizing: 1) lectures as part of the cycle of the so-called Graduate Wednesdays, 2) workshops for students, 3) regular questionnaire surveys to obtain feedback on studies and monitor the application of graduates of the faculty on the labour market.

From November 2022 the organization of a mentoring program for students of the faculty called “NF Alumni Mentoring”. The NF Alumni Club is also responsible for general communication with the Faculty’s alumni.
From LS 2017/2018- introduction of a minor specialization Practicum in Public Administration, within which students go on a three-month internship to the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the OECD in Paris.
The practical dimension of teaching is strengthened from November 2022 by the organisation of the already mentioned Innovation Week at the VŠE.
